My Daddy was a very unique person. He was busy all the time doing something, or thinking of something to do. He worked hard and he believed in having fun as well. He was well known for his sense of humor and he had friends all over. He was very family oriented and stayed in touch with all the older members of his family as well as my mother's. He had his faults, booze and money being two I am very familiar with, but he was always singing. He sang me nursery rhymes when I was small and well into the time when it
embarrassed me for him to do so. He sang about "The Big Rock Candy Mountain", "Sonny Boy" and many others I can't even remember the names of. He talked a lot about the singing schools he attended in churches when he was growing up. They sang "round note" songs from strange books with no music, just words
with associated notes. He always wanted me to go to the schools but I refused more than once. His songs were always joyful and playful and I can still hear him sometimes today.
